Community Policing and the Prevention of Radicalisation (CoPPRa)

CoPPRa is a project funded by the European Union with co-funding from the Belgian Federal Police. It rests on the assumption that regular frontline police officers – community police officers – have an important role to play in preventing radicalisation because they work on the ground, understand their local communities, and tend to have good community links. This means they are well-placed to spot the signs of radicalisation and work in partnership with local communities to prevent or tackle it. However, such police officers do not always have a good understanding of radicalisation, know the warning signs, or understand what to do in response. This project has aimed to help plug those gaps through the spread of knowledge and training.
